Annapolis?

So close, but yet.. so far?

Annapolis summit ended, but yet, no real changes are to be seen here in Palestine...
Is Bush really believes that this illusion summit can solve the occupation problem??

The summit can really solve all our problems with the ISRAELIES?!
IT IS REALLY STUPID TO THINK THAT THEY REALLY BELIEVE THAT ANNAPOLIS CAN SOLVE THE PALESTINIAN PROBLEM!

Is it because everyone thinks that it is better not having this pathetic summit?
Is there someone who thinks that the summit is an option for a real agreement?
Or is it just a way to please the Americans? What do they even know about us and about the occupation???

Do they even care that we live THE WAY WE DO HERE?
Why should I believe that suddenly they care about Palestine?
Its only interests!!

BUT YET MAYBE JUST MAYBE THERE WILL BE A CHANGE. I KNOW THAT ALL OF US ARE HOPING FOR A REAL CHANGE……
WE JUST NEED TO CONTINUE HOPING!!!!!

Asad,

You are right that the U.S. doesn't really care about Palestine and is only motivated by its own interests. But after the failures of the U.S. in Iraq, and Israel against Hizbollah, nobody believes the U.S. can dominate the region by force anymore. To save what is left of American influence in the Middle East, the U.S. has to work cooperatively not just with Israel but with Arab allies, and no Arab leaders can safely be friends of the U.S. as long as the U.S. continues to prevent Palestinian independence by giving Israel a free hand.

So an independent Palestine has suddenly become a key U.S. interest.

It would be nice if the U.S. would support Palestinian independence just because it is the right thing to do. But does it really matter if they do it for the wrong reasons, so long as the end result is independent Palestine?

I don't think anyone believes that one summit could solve the conflict, but I think some progress was made: it is the first time that both Israelis and Palestinians speak clearly about the two-state solution (which is the only solution).

The two-state solution is a difficult concept both for us (the Israelis), who need to give up control of territories in the West Bank which we believe are rightfully ours, and for the Palestinians refugees who will have to give up the idea of returning to their villages in Israel.

But it's the first step, and that is something too.

as crazy as it may sound...

Let's all GIVE THE ONE-STATE solution a chance! This might be the one-hope. for all.

Since 1948, people have been working and working and working and working and working for TWO states. It HAS NOT happened.

We should be opened minded to an alternative: the one state...

Asad, I would really appreciate it if you could answer my question which is:

you wrote that

ALL OF US ARE HOPING FOR A REAL CHANGE……

If you had a magic stick now, what would you change and how would it look like here?
