Shopping in Ramallah

Last week, since Wednesday, something rare has happened in Ramallah- the streets of Ramallah were full of happy people buying gifts, food, clothes and many other goods. It was amazing hearing the word "tfadal" (your welcome) as the answer of parents to their children instead of saying "NO" or "not now".

It wasn't because of a holiday or was it ? WE GOT OUR SALARIES !!!

This scene is not an often one. (I do hope it will become one…) Many months Ramallah's shops haven’t sold so many goods and clothes. It was a real change for me to see so many happy people, because most of the time the shops in Ramallah are empty, and people are not cheerful or happy as they could have been otherwise in different terms.

Is there a way to maintain happiness such as I have witnessed last week? Is there a way to keep us happy in ramallah like we are now? Why people shouldn’t get their salaries on a regular base? Isn't that an elementary thing? State workers should not be afraid of not getting their salaries. It should not be like that. If a person is working, and he has a job he should always get his money. He should feel safe in his work place, and not neglected by the government.

I can surely see a difference, since Salam Fayad was appointed. Scenes such as this one are making me happy, a spark of hope comes to my heart, and it brings me back to hope that Palestine might allow her citizens to live in a dignified way.

I happened to hear a song which is really widespread in Palestine. I got it to my cell phone. This song calls our leaders to finish the crisis.

Here are some of the words:

Finish this crisis or leave us!!

Abbas or Haniya, we are sick of the fitna!

Fatah and Hamas has brought us back to the jahiliya (the dark ages)

In case someone wants to hear this song, it can be downloaded from here:

May we all have a nice day,

Asad.

Salaam Alaikum Ashad

I came to your site from Heba's blog which I read regularly. People all over the world have such a heart for Palestine and we need witnesses, like you, Heba and Laila to give us the real story - not the propaganda the international media serves us up every day. I will always remember the warmth and kindnesses of the people of Palestine where I was privileged to spend a month in the summer of 2000. Good luck with your studies.

بارك الله فيك

It's good to hear good news! It's also really cool to get that paycheck after so much hard work and treat yourself by spending it (well, not all of if because it is important to save)

That song is pretty awesome, I like it! thanks for sharing

I hope more good news come to be!

Hallo: State employees can be sold only, when there is a sufficient amount of regular tax income. This in turn presupposes a successful national economy with high national income, little unemployment rate and a fair distribution of national income between all fellow citizens. This in turn requires not only to be busy and to do a good job technically but it requires to be efficient, to be good in marketing and selling all the products or services, cause in free market economy you have to convince the customer every day for every single product and basically (monopolies are exception) customers are free in making their decisions. They want to buy the most best for the cheapest price. That’s the fact we have to face and who keeps us moving.

But indeed, I’m happy with you and your families that you got your salaries and I hope it will go on better in the Holy Land. EU and others helps I have heart.

When I traveled the country once with my student friend by bus and backpack, spending the nights in youth hostels, the situation was quite different from today. At that time we could go to where we want, there have been few restrictions and not so much anxiety as today, we have been welcomed by many people (J&P) cordially, people we haven’t seen before. I like to remember.

I hope you will get things in a mess finally. It would be for the good of us all.
